JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY OF POSITION: To create and maintain an environment conducive to Christian and academic development and to manage the daily operations of ELC.
PURPOSE: To work in conjunction with the ELC Board and Coker United Methodist Church to establish and maintain ELC policies pertaining to staff, student body and parent participation; to become familiar with and remain faithful to the mission and vision of Coker UMC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PRIMARY TASKS:
• Develop lesson plans and lead daily Chapel services for all classes
• Provide an atmosphere where Christian values and morals are taught and used as a guide for all teacher and student activities
• Plan and review curriculum with teachers
• Plan and review child management strategies with teachers
• Maintain strong written and verbal communication with school families and church
• Manage teaching staff, responsibilities include: hiring, dismissing, scheduling, supervising, evaluating and continuing education
• Develop and manage the school budget
• Maintain all documents and records, as well as standards, necessary to meet the requirements of local, state and federal agencies
• Recruit and enroll children ages 12 months through kindergarten for classes
• Work with Coker UMC financial staff on payroll matters
• Appropriately care for all sick and injured children
• Plan and schedule special events for classes
SKILL & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, preferably Early Childhood Education
• At least three years field experience in Early Childhood, or primary grades
• Knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood education curriculum & child development & management
• Knowledge of state regulations for childcare
• Knowledge of good business practices: administrative, financial, communication, staff management
• Proficient with computer skills

• Coker ELC Board of Directors
• Texas Dept. of Family and Protective Services
• Member of Children’s Ministry Team
• Parents and children enrolled in program
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Purchasing school/office supplies often requires use of personal vehicle
• Caring for sick/injured children is often required
NEEDED ATTRIBUTES:
• Skills for developing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships (with families, co-workers, etc.)
• Administrative and computer skills
• Christian beliefs consistent with UMC doctrine
