Rio Texas Interim Bishop of Record, Bishop Janice Riggle Huie, has announced the appointment of Rev. John Wright as the new District Superintendent of the Hill Country District effective July 1. Wright will replace Rev. Bill Henderson, who is set to retire at this year's annual conference.

Rev. Wright is currently the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Austin and has previously served at Grace UMC in Corpus Christi, Oak Hill UMC in Austin, Chapel Hill UMC in San Antonio and Center Point UMC.  He received his Masters of Theology degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. It was there he met his wife, Rev. Barbara Ruth.

Barbara and John have two daughters of whom they are very proud: Rachel Ruth Wright, who serves as Director of Global Missions at Tarrytown UMC in Austin and the Rev. Elizabeth Ruth Wright, pastor of First UMC, Edinburg, TX. John and Barbara have two beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Esme.
