A Message from Rev. Dr. Ruben Saenz Jr.

Dear Rio Texas Community of Faith, 

Grace and peace in the name Christ, the one of peace and restoration, 

Last week, we were deeply saddened to receive the unexpected and sudden news of Bishop Jim Dorff’s immediate resignation and departure. 

Our clergy and congregations have responded to the painful news with extreme grace, pastoral concern and prayers for all persons and families involved in the circumstances that led to Bishop Dorff’s departure.  

Rio Texas clergy, laity, friends, and denominational leaders have reached out and communicated strengthening words of compassion and encouragement to those of us that have worked closely with Bishop Dorff over the years.  On behalf of the Rio Texas Conference staff, we are all grateful for the many persons who have reached out to offer their support and assistance. 

God’s mission for and through the Rio Texas Conference to transform our troubled world through disciples of Jesus Christ continues without interruption.  All of our congregations were open for worship and spiritual formation this past Sunday proclaiming our confidence that God, who began a good work among us will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. 

We continue in our prayers for all those whose worlds have been shaken and whose sense of security and peace has been threatened.  

The Church has passed through difficult times before and has become purer and more righteous in the process, and will do so this time. 

This is a time when our Rio Texas Conference unites in our resolve to grow in our personal and congregational discipleship. As disciples, we also resolve to reach and touch people in our world with words and concrete acts that demonstrate the good news of God’s great love, Christ’s saving and redeeming power, and the Spirit’s abiding presence and grace.
